How often do you CHALLENGE yourself?  I mean really step outside your box and put your comfort on the line.

When you do, you begin to discover how your beliefs about who you are and what you’re capable of  impact your performance.

Challenge Yourself at Every Opportunity

Woman jumpingfor trapezeI recently witnessed something extraordinarily inspiring that I wanted to share with you.

If you have ever said to yourself or someone else, “that’s impossible?” Than this will help you create a new model of possibility.

Having been part of several powerful team building and leadership trainings, I have had many opportunities to participate in some very challenging ropes course activities and have witnessed countless breakthroughs as a result.

On this particular occasion the course included what is known as the “leap of faith” which involves climbing 50 feet up a narrow telephone pole, having to pull yourself up and stand on the 12 inch top than leap between 5 and 8 feet to a free floating trapeze bar. It is an achievement that would be difficult for even a seasoned circus performer.

Many members of our team including myself were able to scale the daunting pole and successfully fly through the air and grab the trapeze bar which appeared to be more like 20 feet away… and some were not as successful.

The last person to go was a woman who while watching the challenge being successfully accomplished by many of her team mates kept repeating to herself, “this is impossible, I can’t do it.”

Experiencing a sense of inauthenticity and the emotional pull associated with “being who we believe we are not” when trying to change is something almost all of us will face once the decision to change has been made and the congruent actions implemented.

The letter below was sent in response to an email I received from a client who was struggling with the fact that he was successfully implementing the changes needed to profoundly and positively impact his life but was feeling as if the whole thing was as he described it a “feign.” (Identity is concealed to protect the innocent.)

Feign (fan) v  1.a. To give a false appearance of:  b. pretend to:

You know the saying, “fake it ‘til you make it.”  (more…)

Have you ever had the experience of holding back or not doing something because you were afraid it wouldn’t be perfect? Or maybe you doggedly and tirelessly worked on perfecting something before revealing or releasing it -and by the time you did (if you ever did) it was to late or you completely missed the impact it might have had earlier? Or maybe you got so caught up in making sure it was “just right” that you missed out on the fun or reward of just freaking doing it.

It happens all the time.

I can remember as a stupid kid missing out on a really cool and what should have been fun bike ride all my friends were taking just because I had to make sure my bike had the perfect spit shine… I was seriously bummed.

Case in point:

Last week I sent out an email (perhaps you received it) announcing a very special teleseminar I was doing with lifestyle strategist, John Rowley. The email started with a silly spelling error that I nor my computers spell check (which I depend on heavily) had caught.

Here was the line from that email:

“If you have ever been asked for advise or have even been given advise… you already have an idea of exactly what coaching IS NOT!”

Did you catch the errors? (more…)

Well, I think we can agree that we don’t want to be just anywhere. We want to be where it is we want to be, and we want to know for sure we’re there.

Creating personalized easily recognizable and undeniable road signs, landmarks, and mile markers, to help you recognize where you are on your journey is imperative. Those same signs will also tell you exactly when you have arrived at your destination. It is important to understand that the terrain itself will look different than the map you have created. The map is the overview; the terrain is (more…)
